Easter Curbside Fish Fry
This happens every year on Easter Saturday since 2021 and all the funds raised goes towards our Kevin Pollard Memorial Scholarship Program for Caribbean Students who are doing tertiary studies in Canada. A scholarship bursary of $5,000 is provided to assist with tuition fees. The Fish Fry is catered and is hosted by a Kiwanian Member in various cities across the Greater Toronto Area. Orders are placed online and patrons indicate their menu choice and pick up location and then pick up their orders on Easter Saturday.
JAMM-A-THON
This musical telethon happens every year on the last Saturday in November right after ‘Giving Tuesday’, and is hosted online by JAMM-X Radio. Four (4) DJs play music throughout the entire day from 10am to 10pm, and telling the story of Kiwanis at the same time, with the aim to raise funds for a pertinent cause, to address a need within the Caribbean community.
- The history so far is as follows:
- In 2023 the funds were raised to support a Street Boys Initiative program, to provide mentorship and skills training to get the boys off the street in Kingston Jamaica and equip them with a trade in order to earn a living rather than to wipe windshield in the hot son for a few dollars each day.
- In 2022 the funds were raised to send water purification equipment and hygiene packages to families in Haiti with children who were at the risk of a cholera outbreak.
- In 2021 (the inaugural year), the funds raised was used to ship a container of COVID-19 Level 1 Isolation gowns for hospital staff for 7 hospitals in Jamaica as well as hospital bed blankets for the Bustamante Children’s hospital in Jamaica.
