Ongoing Recurring Projects
STAPLES Back to School Project
This is an ongoing Kiwanis Project held in collaboration with STAPLES across Ontario, where funds are raised by STAPLES Stores and given to Kiwanis Clubs to provide back to school supplies for students in need across Ontario. The funds are provided in the form of Gift Certificates and the Kiwanis Club of Toronto Caribbean use these funds to purchase backpacks with school supplies and distribute them to schools that are located in underserved communities.
GLOBAL MEDIC Packing Project
This is an ongoing collaboration with GLOBAL MEDIC where the Kiwanis Club off Toronto Caribbean, hosts a packing day each month at the GLOBAL MEDIC warehouse, where at minimum 15 club members and other volunteers go to pack hygiene packages and water purification kits to be shipped to countries experiencing humanitarian crisis such as war torn countries or those impacted by natural disasters.
Past (One-Off) Community Service Projects
- 2023:
- July 2023 – Collaboration with Acorn to Oak Youth Services in Mississauga to host a Community Open Day where food and school supplies plus other items were distributed to the Community.
- May 2023 – Youth Speed Mentoring Project at the Police College in Toronto with the Youth in Policing Group
- April 2023 – Earth Day Clean-up project at the Viola Desmond Park in Scarborough
- 2022: Shipped Hospital Supplies consisting of COVID-19 gowns for hospital workers as well as hospital bed blankets to the Ministry of Health in Jamaica which benefited 7 hospitals including the Bustamante Children’s Hospital.
- 2021: Pack N Drop COVID-19 Initiative – to support our most vulnerable citizens facing food insecurity due to COVID-19. In the wake of the pandemic Seniors and low income families faced huge food insecurity and hunger. The Kiwanis Club of Toronto in collaboration with the Kiwanis Club of Riverdale helped t sponsor a group of chefs who prepared meals every week from the Jamaica Canadian Association and delivered it to these families. Phase II of the project involved packaging care bags packed with hygiene supplies and non-perishable food items and delivered them to these households at the end of the project.
- 2020: School supplies donated by STAPLES shipped to Jamaica with over 20 elementary schools and over 300 students in Western Jamaica benefiting
